Intense Rites of Initiation

Welcome to my blog. An intense time in the World, nothing short of character building and energy stamina training. I want to say to my readers and subscribers, that this trajectory of unexpected happenings will continue for some time to come. I also want to say the following message... do not forget that we live in an earthquake prone country, this is not to induce fear, only to say we should all always be prepared for the unexpected.

Now to my blog, I hope you get something from it. and if you do please share it.

Throughout history, spiritual traditions have included intense rites of initiation. At first glance, some of these practices can seem extreme or even brutal — like being symbolically buried alive or sent alone into the wilderness. Yet beneath the surface, they carried profound purpose. These rituals were designed to strip away comfort, ego, and fear, leaving the initiate face-to-face with their truest self. The intention was never punishment, but transformation.

The reason such practices were important is simple: growth often requires death of the old self. By confronting mortality, darkness, or solitude, initiates crossed a threshold that demanded surrender, courage, and trust in something greater than themselves. Emerging from these trials, they carried a deeper spiritual maturity, wisdom, and a sense of belonging to the sacred order of life.

Below are two examples that show this clearly:

1.     The Egyptian Mystery Schools (Osirian Rites)In ancient Egypt, initiates of the Mystery Schools underwent rituals of symbolic death and resurrection. Some were placed in tomb-like chambers, mirroring the myth of Osiris’ death and rebirth. The lesson was direct: though the body dies, the soul is eternal. Facing symbolic death prepared them to live with greater awareness of spirit.

2.     Indigenous Vision Quests Among Native American tribes, young people seeking adulthood were sent alone into nature, fasting and enduring solitude. In the stillness and struggle, visions often came — spiritual messages or encounters with guides. When they returned, they were recognised as transformed, no longer children but adults carrying insight and responsibility for their people.

At the heart of these traditions lies a universal truth: transformation is not comfortable. To awaken spiritually, one must first let something within die — fear, illusion, or attachment. That’s why these initiations were so powerful; they weren’t symbolic gestures but lived experiences that reshaped a person from the inside out.

In today’s world we may not willingly seek out to be placed in tombs or sent into the wilderness, but personal life initiations still arise through trauma, heartbreak, loss, and human suffering. These modern trials are no less profound. Look at the World today, and the continual stream of Trauma like a dripping tap, designed to keep you out of balance. These times are forcing us to wake up to the duality of reality and confront pain we would rather avoid, just as the ancient practices forced participants to face darkness. The difference today is that; we are surrounded by endless streams of information — books, online teachings, podcasts, and therapies. While knowledge is abundant, true transformation still requires lived experience. No article or lecture can substitute for your personal courage to face any suffering through hardships and choose growth instead of avoidance, but of course there are tools that can help guide us.

Modern initiations ask us to turn pain into wisdom, to let hardship refine us rather than define us. Just as the ancients emerged from their trials with new vision, we too can emerge from our personal struggles with deeper compassion, clarity, and strength. In this way, the ancient and modern are not so different: both remind us that through the fires of suffering, a new self can be born...maybe, a baptism by fire.

Takeaway: Your hardships and what you are witnessing in the World, are not random — they are invitations to initiation. The question is not whether you will face trials, but how you will choose to transform through them. By meeting suffering with courage and awareness, you step into the same timeless path walked by initiates before you, becoming more whole, awake, and aligned with your true spirit and path ahead.

Peace be with you
